The Zillow Test: Would YOU Click on Your Own Listing?

Be honest for a second.

If your home popped up on Zillow, Redfin, or Realtor.com

Would you actually click on it?

In today’s market, buyers don’t “discover” homes the old way. They scroll. Fast. And your listing has about 2–3 seconds to earn that click.

That’s what I call The Zillow Test.

Here’s how to tell if your home passes it:

✅ 1. The First Photo: Does It Stop the Scroll?

Your first photo is everything. Not the best photo? Not the backyard? Not the kitchen?

The first photo.

If it’s:

  • Dark

  • Crooked

  • A weird angle

  • Or just “meh”

Buyers scroll right past—even if your home is actually great.

The first image should make someone think: “Wait… let me see this one.”

✅ 2. The Price: Does It Feel “Right” at a Glance?

Buyers don’t analyze at first—they react.

If your home shows up at:

  • $525,000 when everything similar is $475,000–$500,000They don’t think: “Maybe it’s nicer.”They think: “Too expensive.” And keep scrolling.

Smart pricing doesn’t just attract offers—it earns clicks.

✅ 3. The Headline: Does It Sell or Just Describe?

“Nice 3-bed, 2-bath home” isn’t selling anything.

Great listings highlight:

  • The lifestyle

  • The best feature

  • The emotional hook

Buyers click on benefits, not bullet points.

✅ 4. The Photos: Do They Make You Want to See It in Person?

Buyers decide if they want a showing before they ever talk to an agent.

Good photos:

  • Are bright and clean

  • Show space and flow

  • Make rooms feel welcoming

  • Tell a story, not just show walls

If your photos look like “just another listing,” your home blends into the crowd.

✅ 5. The Big Question: Would You Choose It?

Line your home up next to 5 similar listings.

Now ask yourself honestly:

  • Would I click mine first?

  • Would I book a showing for this?

  • Would this stand out—or fade in?

That’s The Zillow Test.

🏡 Why This Matters

Homes don’t sell because they’re listed. They sell because buyers choose them.

Passing The Zillow Test means:

  • More clicks

  • More showings

  • More competition

  • Better offers

  • And usually, a better final price

Thinking About Selling?

Before you list, I’m happy to:

  • Review how your home would show online

  • Tell you what to fix, change, or highlight

  • And show you how to position it to win the click and win the buyer
